be the beacon of hope

the collective appreciates your support

In times of hardship and renewal, we’ve all yearned for that beacon of hope—a lifeline, a supportive hand, or a reassuring message that says, "I love you. I see you. I support you. And I want to help you." We've all needed that one!

The Black Healing Collective is dedicated to being that one.

brianne patrice, founder & executive director

“i know all too well how it feels to feel stuck, unaware of your options, constantly yearning for a sense of normalcy, wondering if all you will ever know is pain. no one should ever have to live like that— no one should ever have to choose between survival, healing and safety.”

did you know?

that 1 in 5 Black women are victims of rape? and that for every Black woman who does report at least FIFTEEN do not.

the Black single mother

in 2022, there were about 4.15 million Black families in the United States with a single mother, which is an increase from 1990 levels, when there were about 3.4 million Black families with a single mother. more than two-thirds of all Black working mothers are single moms, making them the primary, if not sole, economic provider for their families.

Black women and domestic violence

Black women experience some of the highest rates of domestic violence in the United States. according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), 40% of Black women have experienced intimate partner violence, compared to 30.2% of white women. Black women are also three times more likely to die from intimate partner abuse than white women

why donate?

why donate?

all donations support our mission to create and provide safe and equitable housing and mental health resources to Black women and femmes.

the current systems of welfare are deeply rooted in historically racial and systemic issues such as:

  • racial bias and discrimination— we often face systemic barriers that limit access to the appropriate benefits, healthcare,  and education we are deserving of, further perpetuating socio-economic disparities.

  • lack of cultural competence— these systems do not fully understand or address the unique needs and challenges we as Black Americans face

  • stigma and stereotypes— we face negative stereotypes that are associated with welfare dependency which often keeps us from seeking out the help we are entitled to

  • limited representation— we are underrepresented in the decision-making process and as a result, policies do not effectively address the needs of our community

  • one-size fits all approach

brianne patrice’s motherhood journey shows why we should un-romanticize maternity
by kristen jeré

Patrice had to navigate doctors that downplayed her daughter's symptoms and multiple incorrect diagnoses before her daughter got diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, a chronic kidney disorder where too much protein passes through the urine. Patrice’s journey into motherhood was turning out to be not at all like what she had imagined, “I had all these visions and dreams about what it would feel like being a mom: making lunches, going to PTA meetings, signing field trip forms, being a chaperone– all of that. But you don’t really think about what could be on the other side of that.”

  • i am so proud to see where this work has come from and to where it is headed
